COVID-19 Update on March 16 at 1:48 p.m.

From the COVID-19 Reponse Team

Dear Rollins Community:

We continue to monitor the changing environment surrounding COVID-19. At this time, campus will remain open for members of the Rollins community, including faculty, staff, and students who temporarily remain on campus. A separate message regarding the College’s policy on staff working remotely is forthcoming.

We continue to work diligently to ensure readiness for our students to begin virtual, synchronous learning starting Monday, March 23, and are prepared to support them for the next eight weeks.

Large events and mass gatherings can contribute to the spread of COVID-19 in the United States via travelers who attend these events and introduce the virus to new communities. We know that we can help slow the spread of the virus at a rate that the healthcare system can manage by reducing density of people. Based on the current recommendation from the CDC, we are prohibiting in-person events that consist of 50 people or more in one place at one time until further notice.

All athletic events have been cancelled. Effective today, we will also close all athletic facilities except for staff who work in these buildings, which include Alfond Sports Center, Alfond Pool, Sandspur Field and both Tennis facilities.

Additional closure decisions have been made in light of precautions being taken across the country to avoid the potential spread of COVID-19. The following facilities and events are cancelled effective today:

  • Cornell Fine Arts Museum
  • Knowles Memorial Chapel
  • Music events (including Community School of Music)
  • Mister Rogers Walking Tour

At this time, Skillman Dining Hall is closed to non-Rollins community members, and its continuing operation is being assessed.

Olin Library is open only to members of the Rollins community with an R-Card. Students, faculty and staff may swipe in during posted hours of operation. After hours, there will be no 24/7 RCard access. This lowers the density of people in the library, and allows librarians to best serve our on-campus community in person and students virtually.

Information Technology is happy to support any needs members of the campus community may have by calling the IT Help Desk (407-628-6363). This team might then engage in a remote session. Previously scheduled open labs will continue, unless otherwise noted. Virtual open labs and virtual office hours will be added to our support schedule in the near future.

The Wellness Center is currently open and available. Students who remain on campus and have COVID 19 symptoms are required to contact the Wellness Center immediately and must be evaluated via phone by calling 407-628-6340. The COVID Call Center is also available 24/7 at 1-866-779-6121.

Please continue to visit the College’s emergency site, where you can reference previous messages, FAQs, and a list of cancelled events. We offer continued thanks for your patience and understanding during this unprecedented time.
