In compliance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (the “Clery Act”), 20 U.S.C. 1092 (f), Rollins College issues timely notices to notify the campus community of Clery Act crimes or other serious incidents that the College determines represent a serious and ongoing threat to the campus. The College may distribute timely notices using a variety of means, including emails, text messages, flyers, and website announcements posted on the Campus Safety website.
Due to the unfolding situation surrounding COVID-19, institutions of higher education have been instructed by the Department of Education to communicate with campus communities when specific and/or ongoing threats to the campus community have been identified.
Rollins College activated portions of the Emergency Operations Plan in early February 2020 in response to the growing threat of COVID-19 to our students studying abroad. We continued to receive direction from federal, state, and local officials aimed at mitigating the threat and reducing the risk to all members of our campus community. A full activation of the Emergency Operations Plan took place on February 28, 2020 as the increased threat to the United States and institutions of higher education became clearer. Residential students were asked to vacate campus by March 20, 2020, and classes shifted to virtual, synchronous instruction on March 23, 2020.
As members of the campus community returned home, and following continued communication from the institution, this week we began to hear about individuals who have either tested positive or are presumptively positive for COVID-19.In each case, a team of individuals, including a member from our Wellness Center staff, is assigned to investigate the threat level, make appropriate recommendations, and ensure those recommendations are carried out. At this time, no members of our campus community currently on campus have reported symptoms or tested positive. However, should a member of our campus community or student residing on campus develop COVID-19, we would relocate them to a building that would allow for additional space and personal bathroom facilities will facilitate their care and ability to quarantine.
Areas of campus that may have been impacted are cordoned off until cleaning, consistent with CDC guidelines, can be completed and reviewed by a member of our Wellness Center staff.
We ask that you continue to be vigilant with handwashing and social distancing, following all applicable CDC guidelines. Anyone with infection concerns should call their healthcare provider to discuss symptoms and requirements for monitoring. If you feel you have symptoms and need to be seen, please inform the healthcare facility prior to your arrival so that they can prepare appropriately. The closest emergency room to Rollins is Advent Health Winter Park.
