Level 2, Partial Activation: Hurricane Ian Update – September 26, 2022

Based on the most recent models, Hurricane Ian is expected to have a significant impact on our area. Given this information, the Rollins campus will close at 5 p.m. Wednesday; residential halls will close at 4 p.m. Wednesday. The College will then close Thursday and Friday for damage assessment.

In person classes are scheduled for today and Tuesday. Wednesday through Friday, your faculty members will be in touch with makeup assignments or makeup work. If you have questions, please reach out to your faculty members.

We are gathering information about shelter operations in Orange County and will share information when we know more.

Closing campus is a decision that we undertake with the utmost gravity. We regret the disruption to the academic calendar and the difficulties this poses for all of our students, faculty and staff. We are guided first and foremost by concern for the safety of our students and entire campus community, including our faculty and staff, who need to take care of their own families and homes. Additionally, we consider the many logistics of campus operations and the challenges of supporting and caring for a residential campus during significant weather emergencies, including the potential for power loss and flooding and the risks posed by wind-driven debris.

Please continue to solidify your storm preparations and be watchful for further updates.
